Humility and Being Humble - Teal Swan
Are we losing the art of modesty? …Today’s debate
We’re getting very excited at w&h about the impending return of The Apprentice, which comes back to BBC 1 from next Tuesday for its ninth series.
Of course, we love watching to see our very own columnist Karren Brady in action, plus it’s fabulous seeing the business challenges Lord Sugar puts his candidates through and how they work together (or not) to achieve them. And we also really enjoy the face-pulling and pithy comments of Lord Sugar’s other adviser, Nick Hewer, too.
Again this year, there will be 16 contenders out to win the title and a staggering £250,000 of investment from Lord Sugar. And listening to their comments going into the the series, there is no shortage of confidence among them!
“I have a brain like Einstein”, “I can process things at a speed that’s out of this world”, “When it comes to business, I am the complete package” and, our personal favourite, “I take inspiration from Napoleon; I am here to conquer”, are among the candidates’ remarks about themselves.
All of which has got us wondering whether the art of modesty is in demise here in the UK and whether we’re now training our youngsters to blow their own trumpets.
