5 Ways to Read Faster That ACTUALLY Work - College Info Geek

How to Boost a Lot of Articles in New Article Boost

Steps

  1. Read up on wikiHow policy. Most articles that will be found in new article boost on a daily basis will require some knowledge of wikiHow policies to boost - whether it may be the merge policy, deletion policy, or the title policy.
  2. Open New Article Boost and select the "score" field once. The articles with the lowest scores will show up. Don't rely on score alone to boost an article, though - the computerized scoring system can be wrong at times.
  3. Look for articles with titles that would suggest they are either gibberish, spam, or another form of speedy article. These are typically the articles that should be dealt with first.
  4. Seek out titles that read as though they may not be how-tos or have brand names in them.If they are in fact advertisements or not how-tos (or violate the deletion policy in any other way), NFD the article and demote it - but don't forget to notify the author as well.
    • Sometimes articles that are ads or are not how-tos may have non-source links in the citations. Remember to remove these.
  5. Demote pages that need a substantial amount of work to go live.If you come across an article that needs plenty of work to ever go live for readers (for example, written somewhat sarcastically but not enough to violate the deletion policy), make any necessary edits to tag the article and copyedit it, and then feel free to demote it. You're encouraged to promote articles as a booster, but it's okay to demote articles - just try to do it sparingly.
    • Explain what the article needs help with by posting on the Discussion page (and reach out to the author as well). You can also tag the article as {{accuracy}} or {{attention}} and then clarify your reasons for doing so.
    • If you think the article is off to a good start but needs more advice to be helpful to readers, it's better to mark it as a stub and promote it, rather than demoting it.
  6. Improve articles that are worthy of promotion. For example, you may see an article that is almost ready for the public eye, but just needs copyediting and formatting. Make those changes if necessary, and then press "Promote".
    • Remember to remove non-source links or images being used without permission from the copyright holder before promoting an article.
    • If an article is very strong as a new article, it may be appropriate to give the page a by pressing the star next to thePromotebutton.
  7. Get help from other editors. If you see an article that you think is ready for promotion or only needs a small amount of work to be ready, but you don't know much about the topic, farm it out to another editor with greater knowledge. Try looking at the Community Topic Areas page or ask an editor you already know for help.
  8. Reach out to editors who wrote new articles.Whether it be because the article has had a tag applied to it or because the article is fantastic, you should always talk to editors when necessary. While editors get automatic messages when their article is promoted or marked as a Rising Star, you can always reach out to them to praise their work, and send personal messages (or template messages) to users who have written articles that still need more work.

  • Make thoughtful decisions rather than speeding through many articles carelessly.
  • If you're unsure about an article, leave it for another booster rather than potentially making an error. While it can be very frustrating to leave an article, even the most experienced boosters sometimes have to do so.
  • Reach out to editors when placing tags on their articles - this is best practice, as it's courteous and leads to editors making attempts to improve their articles (and hopefully getting more pages promoted).
