Incorporate pretty pleats into your closet.
The spring runways were teeming with pleats, but when it comes to taking this look from the runway to reality, we think Charlize Theron does it best. Her outfit—a black wrap dress and strappy heels—is stylish, yes, but it is also quite simple. However, the pleated skirt gives it a feminine and flirty twist, not to mention texture, which helps to break up an all-black outfit. To try a similarly chic look, pick up Theory’s (5) or Zara’s Irregular Pleat Dress (). Then, simply pair your chosen dress with a pair of simple black heels—we like Mango’s ().
Add printed jeans to your denim collection.
Printed jeans are having a major moment right now, so if you are looking for styling ideas, look no further than Miranda Kerr, who was recently spotted wearing blue leopard-print jeans. By pairing her fun and eye-catching jeans with simple yet smart pieces—specifically, a white tee and a cropped jacket—Miranda created a casual look that works day and night. Ready to try? We suggest you pair either Current/Elliott’s (0) or Hudson’s (6) with a crisp white tee. Then, simply throw Bird by Juicy Couture’s (0) over the top and you’re all set.
Add a shark tooth necklace to your outfit.
While we loved the oversized shark-tooth necklaces seen at Givenchy’s spring show, we equally adore the way Nicole Richie has turned that runway look into a realistic look. Her shark-tooth necklace instantly gave her otherwise feminine ensemble a tough twist, creating a nicely balanced outfit. In addition, her necklace catches the eye, which makes it a great accessory to wear all season long—and that is just the point! You can wear it with anything and everything! To make this look your own, check out these necklaces: Free People’s (8), Michael Kors’ (5), and Vanessa Mooney’s ().
Experiment with sporty-chic pieces.
Wearing a sporty-chic piece is definitely a look we want to try this spring, but it can be tricky to pull off without looking like you are heading to the gym, which is why we are taking notes from Rihanna. Rihanna paired a varsity-style jacket with a pair of cropped skinny jeans and ankle boots. By picking figure-flattering jeans and booties with a glam vibe, Rihanna created a look that had a sporty twist but was also utterly cool. To try this look for yourself, pair Washborne’s (8) or Diesel’s (2) with your favorite skinny jeans and Botkier’s (8).
