Hello,

I noticed you've been adding links to wikiHow. Since you're a relatively new editor here, I thought I would explain a bit about our External Links policy.

Generally, we don't allow "Resources" or "Further Reading" links, or edits aimed at building "backlinks." We only allow links that serve as a specific citation for information added by neutral editors who made significant improvements to a page. Any other kind of link usually gets deleted, and people who keep adding them regardless of our policy usually get blocked. For more details, you should definitely read .

I hope this makes sense! If you have any questions about this policy, please let me know. I'd be happy to help.

Hello! Regarding your recent article [Remove Wine Stains]. Great start but I just had a question or two about the content. Is it solely about red wine? What about white wine? I'm not a wine drinker or too knowledgeable about this but a quick Google search suggests that white wine does stain as well. So, perhaps we could add a section or steps for removing white wine as well? Or if it would be the same making it clear that it'd be the same and tweaking the word choice a bit?

Or we could always change the title to reflect that it will solely be about removing red wine stains. What do you think?

I will do further research but it is not recommended to store eggs using the article's recommendations.

I did find one link that clearly states that preserving eggs in petroleum jelly (similar to mineral oil) is not recommended by Utah State University. Link:

The best way to preserve eggs is by freezing them.

The article is probably unsafe and inaccurate.

I'm sorry.

Hi! I love your writing but the egg preservation article is unsafe and is not backed up with good sources. I noticed you did make some changes and I will go check them out. The USDA and the National Center for Home Food Preservation are the two gold standard sources when it comes to home canning. The Ball Blue Book is another good source to use. None recommend the preservation techniques you wrote about. The only safe way to preserve eggs is by freezing them.

Promoting unsafe food preservation can make someone ill.

I thought wikiHow was attempting to present authoritative sources and information.

I'm sorry but your article does not meet canning standards. If you wish, you can call any agricultural extension office or UC Davis to confirm what I wrote.

I've done my share of food preservation. I mainly freeze things but I have canned fruits, jams and jellies. I don't can things like meat or anything that requires pressure canning.

I did check your sources and I did read one yesterday before NFDing your article. It was from PubMed and discussed preserving eggs in oil. I am not sure who the intended audience was for, but food preservation authorities do not recommend this method. Here is what Utah State University says about a similar method:

"Vaseline Covered Eggs. Covering eggs in Vaseline for room temperature storage is simply dangerous. There is no sound principle of food preservation being applied here what-so-ever. In fact, this is quite the opposite—conditions are being created to favor foodborne illness microorganisms. "

Link:

Both mineral oil and Vaseline contain similar properties, They both seal the egg in a similar fashion.

The folks at Utah State University would be considered experts when it comes to food preservation.

00:56, 13 December 2019 (GMT)

At 01:15, Dec 13, 2019

Penmousesaid:

Here's another link that is a food preservation booklet published by Utah State University. The booklet tells all about food storage including not preserving eggs in mineral oil.

Link:

"PETROLEUm JELLY OR mINERAL OIL COVERED RAW EGGS Th is is a shelf life extension (quality extension) method, NOT a food preservation method. Th ere is a major foodborne illness risk if eggs are stored above refrigeration temperature. Th e rationale for this recommendation may come from the egg industry itself with one key fact left out. Mineral oil (oft en called egg oil) may be rubbed onto egg shells to fi ll their pores. Th is minimizes air and bacteria entry, prolonging their (refrigerated) shelf life. Many commercial eggs are treated in this manner today. But, the big diff erence is that they are always refrigerated. Some of the recommendations have been for room temperature storage."

My last comment for the day. Need to go fix dinner:

If you want to learn more about canning here is a set of links provided by Utah State University:
