The Craziest Food Trends That Took Over 2018

While we'll never stop striving to bring our readers amazing content on a daily basis, we know not all the best stuff comes from us.
Throwing a cold one back after setting a personal record on the track sounds like a logical way to celebrate. But drinking that beer mid-run? Not so much. The beer mile and all its glory—four times around a track where runners chug a 12-ounce beer at the beginning of every lap—has attracted a surprising amount of attention in recent years. Our favorite part about this new athletic trend: One of the is a 45-year-old mother of six with a knack for chugging beer.
Every year, spice company McCormick releases its , a Farmer's Almanac of sorts, only this one is for your taste buds. A few standouts from this year: cookie flavors in other desserts (chocolate chip cookie biscotti—yes, please!), slow cooked meats (break out the ), and more puréed foods (it’s not just for infants anymore).
Nutrition bars take up entire isles of supermarkets and specialty food stores. And they come in every shape and size—gluten-free, low-carb, high-protein, and, oh yeah,specially designed for women. Sure, Clif Bars and Power Bars might be subconsciously marketed toward men with advertisements about giving you the fuel for endurance activities. But Luna and thinkThin bars are explicit in their target demographic: busy women who don’t have time to think about preparing healthy food. Filling that need seems noble, until you realize that advertising these bars as guilt-free and smaller in portion size might actually work to perpetuate hurtful stereotypes.
