In the spring of 2019, the company Xiaomi announced a new state budget redmi 4x, which many instantly liked. The new affordable Redmi 4X smartphone in its filling is not much different from the version of Redmi 4, but at the same time, the device has a completely different look. xiaomi redmi 4x review

A box of white cardboard, hidden inside: a smartphone, warranty card, a booklet of instructions, a “clip” for removing SIM cards, an adapter for charging from the mains and a microUSB - USB cable.

Monoblock contrasts sharply with the packaging. Black rounded, compact by today's standards and pleasantly lying in the hand apparatus. Looks good xiaomi Redmi 4X. This is facilitated by the metal back of the device, but it should not mislead you. Plastic is made not only large inserts on the top and bottom, but also the supporting frame of the smartphone.
The materials chosen by Xiaomi engineers are easily soiled, but fingerprints on the matte surface are visible only at certain angles.
The fingerprint scanner is located on the back of the device, in its upper part. The main camera and monotone flash are located in the upper left corner of the panel.The logo of the manufacturer and legal information on a dark background are indistinguishable even at arm's length.

On the left side of the device, a hole is made for the SIM card tray. On the right side - the power key and the "rocker" volume. At the bottom of the device are: microUSB connector and eight holes. On the right, behind the perforation, there is a single speaker, on the left, a conversational microphone.

The 3.5 mm jack on the top face is not symmetrically mounted. Immediately - a hole for the second microphone and the eye of the infrared port, which is used to control home appliances.

The xiomi faceplate is largely responsible for the pleasant impression of the device. At first glance, everything is standard: small frames, touch keys without illumination, front camera, and a narrow opening of the speaker. Unusual placement of the LED - above the central key. But the main thing is the tactile sensations - 2.5D protective glass with oleophobic coating, smoothly turning into the case.

There is no air gap between the matrix and the protective glass. A polarizing filter, if provided, is ineffective. The appearance of glare does not prevent anything.They also prevent to use the smartphone on the sun, for this purpose it is quite enough brightness of illumination. It, by the way, is uniform, even when the black field is displayed, there are no noticeably brighter areas.
It is known that, depending on the batch of the matrix, hiaomi redmi 4x may differ. Our copy of the screen is cold, without pronounced inversion of colors, but with unstable white and black. The shades change slightly when deviating from the perpendicular, and especially strongly when looking diagonally. In general, the matrix will be described as qualitative.
According to the specifications, the sensor recognizes up to 10 simultaneous touches. In fact, we have documented cases when he has problems with the definition of more than five fingers. When working with the interface of the operating system is imperceptible, but in games will become a problem.

Xiaomi Redmi 4X is available in three versions, differing in the amount of internal and RAM. The cheapest has 16 GB of ROM and 2 GB of RAM, the most expensive - 64 GB of ROM and 4 GB of RAM. Our edition has got a version of the smartphone, located between these two extremes and equipped with 32 GB of internal and 3 GB of RAM.In all three versions, the hybrid slot supports SD cards with a capacity of up to 128 GB. A chip that runs on a smartphone is called a Snapdragon 435 and has 8 Cortex-A53 cores with a maximum frequency of 1.4 GHz. In addition, we note a gentleman's set of sensors, including: a pedometer, a gyroscope, a Hall sensor, a compass, and a fingerprint sensor.
The speed and accuracy of fingerprint recognition satisfied us. The location of the sensor does not interfere with the use, the benefit of the smartphone body is small and the pad is always at hand or more precisely, under the finger.
The performance of Xiaomi Redmi 4X in everyday tasks turned out to be sufficient, but you can't call a perfectly fast smartphone. Operations such as installing and opening applications are slower than expensive devices. Smooth animations with which MIUI 8 is saturated occasionally “stumble”. The point is rather in optimization than in the low potential of the processor. At least in games Redmi 4X consistently gives at least 20-30 frames per second. The chip does not reduce the frequency with time, but the case of the device heats up noticeably during a long game.

The shell of MIUI 8 not for nothing gathered around itself a fan base.As we have repeatedly noted, this is one of the most comprehensive Android conversions: functional and beautiful, but heavy. Of the 3 GB of RAM, OS Redmi 4X reserves 1.3 GB for its needs. Such appetites are easily explained if you pay attention to the functionality of the operating system. We paid attention to the built-in tool for “cloning” applications, advanced notification management, enabling the “do not disturb” mode according to the schedule, one-handed control mode (not that it was required for such a diagonal of the screen, but still). It also has its own embedded application update service.

Also interesting are the possibilities of creating independent profiles with their own applications and data, a lightweight desktop mode with large icons and inscriptions, as well as a children's mode with restrictions on access to applications.
The global version of the firmware with which we dealt is stable, but not without errors. The LED indicator, for some reason, only glows white, but, most importantly, the noise reduction algorithm sometimes makes mistakes. In noisy places, while making calls or shooting a video, he creates noises with which he is called upon to fight.

In the combined slot, either two SIM cards with 4G support are installed, dividing one antenna according to the Dual SIM Dual Standby scheme, or one SIM in a pair by an SD card. The smartphone supports USB connectivity OTG.

The loudspeaker is moderately loud, but the power of the tactile response should be immediately increased in the settings, otherwise you can skip the call in silent mode. The Wi-Fi module of the smartphone works with 2.4 GHz band networks.
Snapdragon 435 supports all three global positioning systems: GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou. Navigation accuracy is high, pairing with satellites is fast.

The built-in radio starts up without connecting headphones, but for normal reception they will still be needed - the wire will act as an antenna. Another feature of Xiaomi smartphones is the infrared port. Corporate application will allow you to pick up teams for almost any household appliance.

The front module of the Xiaomi Redmi 4x 32 GB has a sensor with a resolution of 5 megapixels and an f / 2.2 aperture lens with a fixed focus and no flash of its own. Naturally, there is a portrait retouching mode, you can choose the aspect ratio and quality, and there is also a standard mode for all Xiaomi smartphones to determine the sex and age of the subject.The quality itself at the maximum settings as a whole is average for the level of selfies - not a failure, but not perfect either. There are drawbacks in terms of sharpness and detail, the image is slightly whitish, the colors are faded, and the auto white balance is sometimes mistaken.

The xiaomi main camera uses a 13-megapixel sensor module and a 5-element f / 2.0 aperture lens, equipped with a fast PDAF phase autofocus. The flash is monotonous, but it shines brightly. Stabilization system no.

It is curious that the manual photo settings here are less than in the more expensive models of Xiaomi. For example, the same Mi Mix in the manual mode, there are four sliders (white balance, focusing types, shutter speed and photosensitivity). There are only two options: you can affect the sensitivity (up to ISO 3200) and white balance. Also, there are no photo modes such as group selfie and 1: 1 square, present in the Mi Mix. In the general settings, called by pressing the icon with a gear, everything is standard: there is access to changeable values of clarity, saturation and contrast, there are functions for determining persons, age, gender, you can use the camera as a QR code scanner. Traditionally, you cannot manually select the image resolution, there are only three ready-made presets and two aspect ratios of the frame.In the modes section there is a certain number of scene scenes, HDR is selected separately, this mode is always available on the viewfinder screen for quick activation.

The camera can shoot video at maximum resolution Full HD 30 fps, there is no stabilization function. It’s better not to carry out hand-held shooting on the go, but otherwise the camera handles video shooting quite successfully. The image is smooth, without jerks and artifacts, the brightness is sufficient, the sharpness is normal, there is no claim to detail. There is also complete order with sound: the microphones are sensitive, there are no obvious distortions in the recording, the noise reduction system copes with wind noise successfully.

The camera does well with most standard scenes. The program well suppresses noise and at the same time practically does not spoil the details. You can find fault here only in the areas of unsharpness that periodically appear in the corners of the frame. In general, the camera will cope well with documentary and even artistic photography.

Let's sum up

Xiaomi already has a large family of Redmi smartphones and it's easy to get lost among them. Redmi 4X may well be a victim of congestion in the product line, despitethat on paper this is a good deal: MIUI 8, Snapdragon 435, support for high-capacity memory cards, 4G, good navigation capabilities, high-quality screen, 13 MP camera, pleasant exterior.

The phone earned positive feedback from the owners. In fact, the Xiaomi Redmi 4X meets expectations, except for battery life, which could well have been longer, and a number of flaws that no potential user would want to see in a serial product. In smartphones shipped from the Chinese market for such trifles as a malfunctioning noise reduction or screen sensor bugs usually close their eyes, but Redmi 4X is shipped to Europe officially and there will be no discounts.

2.5D - glass with oleophobic coating;
High-quality matrix;
Functional operating system;
Good as a navigator.

Problems with the recognition of a large number of touches at the touchscreen;
Minor software flaws.
